Jay Ray
My name is Sparrowhawk, otherwise known as Jay Ray. I came to Dunedin from Sydney where I practiced as a Psychosynthesis Guide for 12 years and prior to that hypnotherapy... Coming to live in Dunedin was a personal choice. The place called to me while here on holidays and I resolved then to make it my home. At that stage I had no idea what would unfold. Psychosynthesis has been a very integral part of my own evolution, psychologically and spiritually. It was not, and will not ever be something that I could fold up and put away. I started a small practice here, but as few people, at that time, seemed aware of therapy as a means to spiritual development, the going was slow. It seemed that if I wanted to continue to do my work, I was going to have to teach people what Psychosynthesis had to offer. So I did! In 1999, I developed and commenced a three-year training course.
After facilitating for several years I closed the Training Centre to allow myself some space to see what needed to happen next. As a result two books have grown from that space:one an outflow of the Psychosynthesis course developement(The Way Through- A Guide to Psychosynthesis in Everyday Life", and the other " Reweaving the Web- A Journey of Shamanic Connection" (out later this year) from my Shamanic teaching, something that began decades ago and has been developing strongly ever since.
Currently I am undergoing the Munay Ki initiatory rites with Billie Dean in Australia, a fascinating process. If I am able to complete that process successfully, I shall be offering the rites here in New Zealand from early 2009 onwards.
Last year I was given a challenge by a member of the local indigenious community to 'ground the Pakeha'. That has led me on a wonderful journey seeking the ways that we of the West most need grounding. The challenge fit very neatly into my own search for my own deep ancestors. During that search have have come to understand that the thing we have lost that has made a deep impact on us as a people is the contact with and knowledge of, our ancestral roots. Now I see my job as helping we of European ancestory to reconnect. In so doing, I believe we will become 'indigenious' again: connected to our own tap-root that informs out DNA and connects us to spirit of land and indeed all things.
Next year is the year I take the Reweaving intensive on the road, looking at how we became disconnected as a people, what that has brought about in todays world, and how we can begin the reconnection process, coming to know ourselves, and bring healing to our relationship with other races on this amazing planet.
