Michael Winter

I'm Michael Winter and live in Christchurch with Josephine, our two boys Paul and James, and a Dalmation called Goochy.

I was born in London, and brought up in Birmingham, so regard myself as a Brummie rather than a cockney. I graduated and did research in chemistry, and ended up working for a big chemical and pharmaceutical company in the North West of England. I had this feeling of not fitting in, was fortunate enough to go on a management course called effective management in a complex world, which was really about getting in touch with your higher purpose. To cut a long story short, I left the company, got involved in counselling and the human potential scene in the UK, ending up studying psychosynthesis with the Psychosynthesis and Education Trust in London, and living in the Findhorn community. With moving round the country, I only completed about 2 years of the 3 year psychosynthesis training. Whilst in Findhorn, I met Josephine, who is a Kiwi. She brought me back to NZ as a souvenir, and we are still happily here 20 years later!

We were originally involved in NZ working with the College of Natural Medicine in Christchurch. I taught chemistry and biochemistry to the students, and trained as a secondary teacher. Since then, I have been employed as a teacher, teacher trainer and educational researcher, and am involved in phone counselling with Lifeline. I have decided I need to get back to working with Psychosynthesis, face to face counselling and with Life Coaching, which are my passions. Because I tend to sabotage myself, I need to spend some effort on will work.

I am excited about having made contact with the SPCN and look forward to making a contribution.
